Rachael Yamagata- Elephants

Rachael Yamagata’s latest record, a double disk entitled Elephants… Teeth Sinking Into Heart was released this past week. It is divided into Elephants, a more intimate, raw collection of songs and Teeth Sinking Into Heart, a set of songs with a heavier, grittier sound.

I am partial to the songs on Elephants and, in particular, the title track. It is both haunting and pervasive. The piano swirls in your head as Rachael’s whispers float over top. Perfect for a sad ‘why is my boyfriend doing me wrong’ type of night. I recommend listening to it while walking in the rain (like tonight) or just before bed. Even boy-half, who does not enjoy your girl-with-piano type of music, is liking this record.
